Fear or Intuition: Build Self-Trust to Know

How do I tell the difference between fear and my intuition?

Discernment is a process. Not a destination.

Understanding the differences (for YOU) between fear and intuition takes time. But you can use these practices to build the muscles of discernment intentionally.

Hopefully, you’ve already started with the basics of REGULATION we talked about. Keep it up. Consistency over time with this is key.

And, let’s also dig a little deeper.

The differences between fear and intuition are often subtle. That’s why it takes practice and getting lots of reps in. Now, I have a question for YOU.

When’s the last time you got uncomfortable, intentionally?

Seriously.

When’s the last time you pushed yourself outside your comfort zone, on purpose, and felt the fear associated with it?

>>>

If your answer is some version of “I don’t know” or “why the fuck would I do that?!”, It makes a lot of sense to me why discerning is hard.

You don’t have anything to compare your body’s cues of intuition to.

So here’s a practice for you.

>>>

Get uncomfortable. Intentionally.

>>>

Choose one thing you know is right/safe/aligned for you and pushes you out of your comfort zone. Then, when you do it, pay attention to how fear shows up.

Notice how fear shows up in your body, in your thoughts, in your relationship patterns and other behaviors. Get to know fear intimately

Once you have practice in knowing what “pushing your comfort zone” feels like in your body, you have something to compare to when you feel something is actually out of alignment (intuition telling you not to do something).

Remember, this is a practice. Discernment is a process.

Go slow. Get curious.
